A stump grinder uses a spinning cutting wheel to chew the stump into small wood chips, working it down below ground level. It’s faster, cleaner and far less disruptive to your yard than digging the whole stump out.
Will the stump grow back?
Grinding below ground level removes the part of the stump that sends up new shoots, which is why it stops regrowth. A few species can still push small sprouts from remaining roots for a while — if that happens, let us know.
Can you reach a stump in a tight side yard or backyard?
Usually, yes. We have compact grinders that fit through narrow spaces between houses, fences and sheds. If access is tricky, tell us when you call and we’ll plan for it.
What happens to the wood chips?
Cleanup is included: we rake the grindings and clean up the work area. If you’d like to keep some of the chips as mulch for your garden beds, just tell us.
Can I plant grass or a new tree in the same spot?
Yes. Grass and small plants can go in once the chips are cleared and the hole is filled with good soil. For a new tree, it’s usually best to plant a few feet away from the old stump, where you won’t hit the remaining roots.
Is it better to grind a stump or burn it?

Do you grind stumps from trees you didn’t remove?
Yes. Old stumps, stumps left by another company or by a storm — any size, anywhere on the property.
